Shift-Lab Letterpress Workshop: Thinking in Layers

Saturday Sep. 23, 2017 9am-4pm

In this one-day letterpress workshop with Macy Chadwick and Sarah Bryant of the art collective Shift-Lab, participants will explore the Hamilton wood type collection and carve linoleum blocks that respond to the letterforms we find. Over the course of the day, we will produce prints by layering wood type and linoleum, reveling in the spontaneous combinations of form and color that our experimentation yields. All levels are welcome. Join us!

The workshop runs from 9 am until 4 pm. Following a one-hour break, the Shift-Lab artists will enjoy their gallery reception from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Hamilton Museum. Workshop attendees are invited to attend!

Lunch is on your own and there are many restaurants nearby or you can pack your own and eat here at the museum. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes that may get ink on them.

The cost is $125 per person with the museum providing ink and materials. Space is limited, so reservations and a $65 non-refundable deposit when you sign up are required. The $60 to fulfill the full cost of $125 of the workshop will be due at the beginning of the workshop. We accept cash, credit card or check. Because of the nature of the pressroom and the pieces being used participants in the workshop must be 18 years or older.
