The blizzard book is a unique book form that is made by folding rather than sewing or pasting. It shares a process similar to an accordion fold, allowing for a strong binding, versatile for a variety of content. In this workshop, students will learn the art of the blizzard book. Students will also work to create the pages for their blizzard books. Students will make a blizzard book to take with them when they leave.

No experience necessary. Beginner to experienced individuals welcome, the form is flexible! The minimum age requirement for workshop participants for this event is 18+.
Instructor:
Laura Farahzad Mayer is an artist and designer who grew up in Manitowoc WI. She is a printmaker, bookmaker, and hand letterer. Laura completed her MFA at the University of Iowa where she studied design, printmaking and earned a certificate from the Center for the Book. She previously worked professionally as a graphic artist for Whole Foods Market in Chicago. Her creative practice explores themes of grief, memory, culture and generational storytelling. Laura works as a professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and is based out of Milwaukee, WI.

The cost is $45 per person, with the museum providing all the materials you will need to create unique books. The workshop begins promptly at 5:30 pm and ends at 8:30 pm. The doors open at 5:15 pm for check-in or to shop at our retail store. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes that may get messy.
Space is limited, so registration and a $25 non-refundable deposit are required. The $20 balance is due at the beginning of the workshop. We accept cash, credit card or check.
