‘Faces of Hamilton’ is more than a poster; it’s a whirlwind tour through some of Hamilton’s wood type holdings.

Recently printed, this poster showcases capital letters A through Z plus two punctuation marks in a 4-color print.

Feast your eyes on this thoughtful selection of typefaces demonstrating the depth and breadth of wood type in the museum’s collection.

Right to left: A= Tuscan Egyptian, B= Lydian Bold, C= Erie, D=Tudor, E= Painters Roman
About one-third of the sorts in this print are from the museum’s Classroom Pressroom and Staff Pressroom.

Right to left: F= Columbus, G= Roman, H= Columbus, I= Goudy Open, J= Unknown
The rest are from our Type Library, a grouping of type separate from our Classroom or Staff Pressrooms and our Visiting Artist space.

Right to left: K= Clarendon No. 1, L= De Vinne, M= French Clarendon, N=Clarendon Lightface
De Vinne Condensed and Columbus are the only typefaces repeated in the poster, each appearing twice.

Right to left: O= Hobo, P= Brush Script, Q= Caslon Condensed, R= Coronet Bold, S= Page No. 114, T=Latin
The sorts used to make this print included varieties of morticed and Showcard wood type.

Right to left: U= Antique Outlined, V= Antique, W= Page No. 500, X=Cooper Italic, Y= De Vinne Condensed
The letters are all in ten-line type using dark teal, orange-red, and medium-grey ink, with a grid of light-grey 2-line rules keeping everything neatly in place.

Right to left: Z= Aldine, &= De Vinne Condensed, ! = Unknown
