In 2024, Hamilton celebrated its 25th year as a museum. Museum Master Printer Jim Moran chose to commemorate the anniversary by producing an oversized (19x24”) calendar that showcased the museum’s collection of wood type and image blocks.
As one of Jim’s last print projects before his retirement after nearly 15 years at the museum, the 2024 silver anniversary calendar was a sumptuous production in a limited edition of 90 copies, each numbered and signed.
Production of the 2024 Hamilton silver anniversary calendar began in December 2022, with Jim continuing to print the individual monthly sheets through March 2023. After drying, the monthly calendar sheets were sorted, collated, and sent for wire binding.
The calendar covers were printed with black and silver ink on Neenah Classic techweave 80# cover stock in Imperial Red. The months were printed on Neenah Classic Crest 110# cover stock in Bright White. Each month is printed in a different color and accented by different vintage image blocks from the Hamilton collection.
The calendar makes good use of Hamilton’s extensive holdings of wood type, featuring one distinct type face each month. The 12 type faces used in the 2024 calendar were manufactured either by the William H. Page Wood Type Company or by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company.
