JOB TITLE: Welcome Desk Assistant (Part Time) 

OUR MISSION: Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum preserves history for creative use today.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Welcome Desk Assistant is a crucial position at the museum as it is typically the first point of contact and often the first and last experience a visitor at the museum has. This position is key to providing an exceptional experience to all visitors. We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to the museum through welcoming visitors and guiding their experience with clear information and friendly assistance

The Welcome Desk Staff oversees the Museum’s front desk and Dry Goods Store gift shop while on duty.   Weekend availability is required based on program schedules.


POSITION DETAILS 

Reports to the Executive Director 

Hours are 14-21 hours per week depending  on programming schedule

Days are Thursdays and  Saturdays 

Part time, hourly status

Compensation: $15 per hour 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Front-of-House Services

  • Greeting visitors and answering questions at the Museum’s front desk

  • Providing excellent and enthusiastic customer service

  • Communicating and interacting effectively and respectfully with visitors, co-workers, supervisors, and individuals from other organizations

  • Representing the Museum with the highest level of professionalism

  • Keeping abreast of Museum activities and events

  • Ensuring the aesthetic display of gift shop items

Earned Revenue Operations

  • Processing admission, membership, and gift shop sales

  • Completing tasks related to new or renewing Museum memberships

  • Reporting needs for gift shop inventory

  • Responsibility for the cash register / POS balance

Administrative  Support

  • Performing basic data entry and reporting

  • Tracking and replacing forms used at the front desk 

  • Public Space Maintenance

  • Maintaining tidy front entry, front desk, and gift shop

Safety, Emergency Preparedness & Institutional Responsibility

  • Assisting in effective crisis management and emergency evacuation procedures as part of the team

  • Participating in any training related to building and safety. 

QUALIFICATIONS   

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1 year experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, or public-facing nonprofit/cultural organization environment.

  • Demonstrated cash handling experience and accuracy with point-of-sale (POS) transactions.

  • Basic computer proficiency including email, web-based systems, and data entry.

  • Exceptional customer service

  • Exceptional communication skills

  • Ability to multitask.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Job requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
