In the Gallery: New Impressions 2019

The Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum is dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type. New Impressions is an international juried exhibition to showcase exploration and creativity with letterpress printing techniques. This call attracted 254 diverse entries from around the globe. The final 42 works on display were from artists in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and the United States.

This is the fifth year of the New Impressions exhibition and it was juried by Dafi Kühne, graphic designer and letterpress print maker from Glarus, Switzerland; Mary Mashburn, owner and letterpress printer at Typecast Press, graphic designer, and instructor at Maryland Institute College of Art; and Jessica Spring, letterpress printer and book artist at Springtide Press in Tacoma, Washington and instructor at Pacific Lutheran University.

The exhibition was on display at the museum from April 17-June 30, 2019.

Congratulations to the award winners of this year's exhibition. Nick Loaring won the Aetna Award for Sly & the Family Drone Golden Cabinet PosterChrista Carleton won the Directors Cut Award for No Longer People Pleasers; and Cory Wasnewsky won the People's Choice Award for Bagpipe.
