Here at Hamilton, wood type is our business. Beginning in 1880, James Edward Hamilton made type unlike all the rest. In a short time Hamilton became an industry leader.
Mardell Doubek, one of the last pantograph operators from the original Hamilton wood shop, and her enthusiastic apprentice George Liesch has been hard at work creating 100% Hamilton wood type. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a piece of Hamilton history, made right here at the museum.
These moons are made from an original pattern on our pantograph and then trimmed by hand. The wood is type high end grain maple at .918 inches and ready for letterpress printing. Each moon is 12 picas/lines tall.
