Following twenty five years an artist/educator, my practice in printmaking and book arts is focused in Extra Virgin Press, a small independent letterpress studio. Making art available to the widest community through prints, book arts, and public art for public collections is my bedrock. Public libraries, public buildings, universities, and shared venues have hosted most of my exhibitions.
Artists books, prints, and collaborations tell the stories of the communities I engage: Young people, public schools, writers, and the richly varied residents of Miami. Multiple artist's residencies developed skills, and more importantly, relationships with mentors in other parts of the U.S. Now, I mix Miami into projects with these new friends and their similar stories. Research & Development in book arts and printing, along with traditional letterpress printing, fuel my work.
Description of Process
This print is a letterpress printed map of my home neighborhood in Coconut Grove, with images of the neighborhood in the West Grove on the other side (printed from my photographs, prints, and drawings of the Grove since 1992). Printed on a Vandercook 4 Proof Press in nine colors, it was created for a printing demonstration on Juneteenth 2021 at the Frost Art Museum at FIU. The little Cronin fold book documents my move from one side of the Grove to the other in the 30 years that I have lived there.
