Ham at 20 is a collaborative poster project celebrating the twentieth anniversary of The Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. For each month of 2019, a new poster (or two!) will be released via the Hamilton website shop in an edition of 50; 25 will be reserved for year-end portfolios that include all prints. The posters are being created by a roster of accomplished letterpress printers and promising up-and-comers starting in the field.
Tammy & Adam Winn, The Red Door Press
Tammy and Adam Winn are the owners and operators of The Red Door Press, a letterpress print shop and design studio located in Des Moines, Iowa. With a focus on preserving the wonderful history of letterpress printing they specialize in using hand-set type to make posters, cards, invitations, stationery, and other custom printing. Their work is carried throughout the US and the shop has been featured in various print exhibitions and productions both nationally and internationally. The Red Door Press began in 2012 in the Winn's garage and in 2017 moved into Mainframe Studios - one of the nation's largest nonprofit artist workspaces - in the heart of downtown Des Moines. There they continue to share their passion for preservation with the community through workshops, interactive print demonstrations and monthly open studio events.
What Hamilton means to me:
We found Hamilton early in our letterpress journey - our first Wayzgoose was in 2013 - and found within its walls an invaluable resource. Though we may have fallen in love with the presses and the type (oh, the type!) it was the friends we met there that made our letterpress journey possible. Hamilton is undeniably a critical hub of the letterpress community - bringing together people from all across the world to share in their love of all things print.
