Ham at 20 is a collaborative poster project celebrating the twentieth anniversary of The Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. For each month of 2019, a new poster (or two!) will be released via the Hamilton website shop in an edition of 50; 25 will be reserved for year-end portfolios that include all prints. The posters are being created by a roster of accomplished letterpress printers and promising up-and-comers starting in the field.
Elana Schwartzman, Fontlove Studio
Elana Schwartzman has 10 years of letterpress printing and graphic design experience as the owner of Fontlove Studio, where she creates custom designs for fun and profit using hand-set type. She caught the letterpress bug at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts when she was working as a grassroots organizer in the non-profit sector, and hasn't been able to stop printing since. In 2016, Elana joined with other letterpress printers to form Proof Public, a collective with the mission of amplifying marginalized voices through letterpress printing.
What Hamilton means to me:
I never imagined that I would find something, like letterpress printing, that it truly feels like what I am MEANT to do. Then, once I found this work and devoted myself to it, I never dreamed there would be a physical place where all the weirdos who love printing, type, history and community like I do would gather together in a working museum that preserves the past and also innovates for the future of type and printing. Hamilton is that place for me, a community and a resource, and one that I'm proud to support!
