New Impressions is an international juried exhibition to showcase exploration and creativity with letterpress printing techniques. This call attracted 200 diverse entries from around the globe. The final 49 works on display are from artists in Brazil, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States.
On Display: July 14-September 30, 2020. On display at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum (currently closed to the public) and available for online viewing.
This is the sixth year of the New Impressions exhibition and it was juried by Stephen Coles, Editorial Director & Associate Curator at Letterform Archive; Brenda McManus, co-founder of BRED Letterpress and Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Pace University–NYC; and Claudio Rocha, graphic artist, type designer, typographer, and a founding partner of Oficina Tipográfica de São Paulo.
The letterpress printed exhibition poster was collaboratively designed by Nick Larson and Stephanie Carpenter. The catalog was also designed by Nick. You can purchase the poster, the catalog, and some of the prints from the exhibition in our online store.
The exhibition, currently on display at the museum, is viewable online July 14–September 30, 2020. When the museum reopens (date to be determined and announced), visitors will be invited to view the exhibition in person. An online Zoom reception is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, starting at 12noon CDT, and everyone is welcome.
