Dos à Dos Binding Technique Workshop with Julie Baugnet ⎻ July 31

Thursday, July 31 9am–4pm Central

In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn the French link stitch and we’ll explore how the dos-à-dos binding, a playful book structure, can physically embody dualities and help spark conceptual thinking, all while expanding your skills in stitching, materials, and design. Dos-à-dos binding (French meaning back to back) is a binding structure in which two separate books are bound together such that the fore edge of one is adjacent to the spine of the other, with a shared lower board between them serving as the back cover of both. This is a fun book, more interactive. The structure itself will help you with a concept, such as dualities like positive/negative, true/false, black/white. I will introduce the French link stitch, we will bind one book to learn the stitch, and then use it to create a decorative spine in the dos-à-dos.

Objectives:
• Learn a new binding technique
• Learn more about paper and textures and how color can enhance your book
• Learn craft and get better at stitching
• Enhance  your approach to concept
