Join us for a fun afternoon of bookmaking! A Crafternoon is a great way to create a fun DIY project. With each event at the museum we will be exploring unique ways of creating. For the February 15 Crafternoon we will be making the highly versatile blizzard book. No previous experience is necessary! We will provide step-by-step instructions and all the materials you need.
This folded structure can be made in many different sizes for a wide variety of book styles. This form can be used to create a photo album, a travel journal, a wallet, and many more styles! In this class you will get a detailed handout, see examples of blizzard books, find out good material options, make multiple finished versions, and explore different variations.
Stephanie Carpenter will be your instructor for this class. She makes unique and limited edition prints, books, and installations that incorporate letterpress printing and sculptural elements. She graduated with her MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana and is currently the assistant director at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum.
The cost is $40 per person, with the museum providing all the materials you will need to create unique books. The workshop begins at 1:00 pm and ends at 4:00 pm. You are welcome to come prior to that for check-in or to shop at our retail store.
The museum will provide wood type printed paper to incorporate into your book. If you have paper that you would like to experiment with please bring it along.
Space is limited, so registration and a $20 non-refundable deposit are required. The $20 balance is due at the beginning of the workshop. We accept cash, credit card or check.
