Bookmaking Workshop: Travel Journal (Workshop is Full)

Sunday Jun. 5, 2016 1-5pm

Deposit due at sign-up: $30.00
Full cost of workshop: $60.00

If you are preparing for a trip (near or far) this workshop will help you create a unique travel journal for keeping your memories and sharing your stories. Never forget your special adventure with your very own travel journal.

The journal you create will be great for sketching, adding photos or just jotting down thoughts. The paper used will work well with various pens, pencils and markers. Several pockets will be created within the journal, which are great for collecting mementos along the way. We will also review different book structures that are good for taking on the go, from Blizzard Books to Pamphlet Stitch.

For this workshop, bring maps, photos or any special paper that you want to add to the pages. We will also discuss creative ideas for adding imagery to your books. These journals are custom built by you for your next adventure! Stephanie Carpenter, Hamilton Museum Assistant Director, will be teaching this class. Stephanie, an Indiana University graduate with an MFA in graphic design, has been a letterpress printer and book artist for 8 years.

The cost is $60 per person with the museum providing tools and basic materials. You are welcome to bring special or personalized items such as photos, maps or 2D mementos to include in your book. You may also bring your own tools (bone folders, awls, etc.) if you choose.

No previous bookmaking experience necessary. A maximum of 10 students per class ensures everyone has room to work comfortably. A $30 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required upon registration (complete form below). The balance ($30) is due at the beginning of the workshop. Cash, credit cards and checks are accepted.

The minimum age requirement for workshop participants is 18. Questions may be directed to info@woodtype.org or 920.794.6272.
