20th Anniversary Letterpress Workshop

Friday, May 24, 2019 9am - 5pm

Join us to celebrate the museum's 20th anniversary and learn the basics of letterpress printing with wood type at Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum.

The museum was started in 1999 as a working museum. This means that visitors from around the world have the opportunity to print with pieces in the museum collection. This year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary and for this workshop we will pull out blocks that have never been available in a workshop. You will be able to print with wood type in our classroom collection and special, vintage pieces. If you join us for this workshop make plans to stay for the Open House on Saturday, May 25th.

You will become familiarized with type composition, inking methods, and printing with this one day workshop at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. If you're curious about letterpress printing this is a great way to get started.

The workshop runs from 9 am to 5 pm. The day starts off with instruction on printing and using a sign press. The majority of the workshop consists of printing with wood type from a large collection available in the pressroom at the museum.

Everyone breaks for lunch at the same time. Options include purchasing a sub sandwich lunch for $10 (includes sub, chips and beverage), bringing your own lunch (a refrigerator is available) or choosing a local restaurant. Clean-up begins at 4 pm and the day finishes up at 5 pm. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes that may get ink on them.

No experience is necessary for this workshop. The cost is $125 with all materials provided by the museum. Space is limited, so reservations and a $65 non-refundable deposit are required. The $60 balance is due at the beginning of the workshop. Cash, credit cards and checks are acceptable.

Because of the nature of the pressroom and the pieces being used, participants in the workshop must be 18 years or older. Please fill out the registration form below to reserve your place in the workshop. If you have any questions please e-mail us at info@woodtype.org or call 920-794-6272.
