Specimen #11: Appleton Coated
by Bill Moran
12" x 18" Poster
Specimen No.11 of the Hamilton Wood Type Archiving Program. Designed and printed by the museum using Appleton Coated papers, the museum's exclusive coated paper sponsor.
This poster was printed using Hamilton's Aldine Typeface. The subtly patterned background shows the true heart and grit of what wood type can be. Not only is Curious Matter an innovative sheet because of it's use of potato waste, it also is a perfect choice for letterpress because of it's toothy finish and its ability to take the impression of wood type.
Appleton Coated in Combined Locks, Wisconsin is the exclusive sponsor. Founded in 1880 they manufacture and distribute the Utopia and Curious Collection papers.
Letterpress printed on Curious Matter, Ibizenca Sand, 100 lb Cover.
