We teach all types.
Kids
Computers are overrated. Check out the tools of the first great information revolution. Letterpress printing lets you make cool art, publish a short story or just learn to love letters. We welcome kids of all ages but we need more visitors who are 5 to 15 years old. Is that you? Come visit us and bring a friend.
Educators
Hamilton Wood Type is a working museum and offers schools the opportunity for workshops, demonstrations and lectures. Groups are welcome at the museum but printing access is limited to groups of 15 or fewer.
We regularly give talks at schools around the country and with advanced notice can facilitate printing demonstrations in your letterpress studio. Group visits to the museum should be scheduled a minimum of 6 weeks in advance and are subject to staff availability.
Field Trips
We welcome groups of up to 30 individuals for tours. We ask for a minimum of 4 weeks advance notice and tour dates are subject to staff availability. Hands-on printing is not offered as part of the tour.
Contact Jim Moran at the museum 920-794-6272 for scheduling.
Public Workshops
Learn the basics of letterpress printing with wood type. In a workshop you will become familiarized with type composition, locking up, and printing on sign presses. Workshops are all day and run from 9 am until 5 pm. The day starts with a 45 minute tour of the museum and instruction on how to use a sign press. The majority of your time will consist of printing with wood type from a large collection available in the pressroom at the museum. No previous experience is necessary.
