Friday, Nov. 4th

10- 6pm Open House/Demonstrations

We'll be hosting casual demonstrations throughout the day featuring Paul Shaw, Stan Nelson, and our very own Mardell Doubek and Norb Brylski who’ll be scribing, cutting and punching type while you tour the museum. Join us in the pressroom where museum volunteers will be pulling prints and making inky mischief.

6 – 8pm Cash Bar and light appetizers provided by chef Brian Moran (yes, another brother) featuring regional veggies, cheese, fish and cured meats.

8 – 9pm Keynote speaker Tracy Honn of Silver Buckle Press, Madison WI  DIY 19th-Century Style  Tracy will give us a tantalizing tour of amateur printing and the small presses of the late 19th century. 

9 – 10pm Featured speaker Judith Poirier of École de design UQAM, Montreal  Animated Letterpress Judith will share her experimental films and process of printing with letterpress directly onto 16 and 35 mm film stock.

10pm – Midnight Music, Cash bar and the telling tall type tales.

Saturday Nov. 5

Throughout the day we’ll be featuring 4 concurrent hands-on workshops featuring Brad Vetter and Jim Sherraden of Hatch Show Print, calligraphic calisthenics with Paul Shaw, relief printing and letterform cutting with Juliet Shen and Carl Montford, binding and portfolio making with Indiana University’s Kevin Steele.

Saturday evening’s events will take place at the Lighthouse Inn (a 10 minute walk from the museum)

7:00 – 8pm Dinner

8:00 – 9:30pm Keynote speakers Matthew Carter and Stan Nelson who’ll explore the myths, legends and cold hard facts surrounding the effects of technology on the aesthetics of type.

9:30 – 10:30pm Type Trivia and screening of the short film showcasing type cutter Paul Radische of the venerable Enschede Type foundry of Amsterdam.
