Wood Type Archaeology

Industrial Skill Talk

Join us March 11th at Lester Public Library for a historical inquiry into the role of worker skill in wood printing type manufacture. Daniel Schneider, graduate student of Industrial Archaeology at Michigan Technological University, and Jim Moran, museum director, will be discussing industrial skill and the die stamping machine that was utilized in type manufacture at the Hamilton Manufacturing Company. The library is located at 1001 Adams Street Two Rivers, WI 54241 and the talk will begin at 6 pm.

Schneider will also be demonstrating the stamping machine in operation March 10th through the 14th at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum at 1816 10th Street, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Join us to see the 19th-century stamping press and how it was operated. Demonstrations will take place throughout each day, with scheduled demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day, coinciding with the museum’s guided tours.

This project has been funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council.
